Serbia won the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with Molitva performed by Marija Serifovic. The atmosphere was hysterical in Helsinki Arena during the voting when everyone cheered on their favourites. For the first time ever the Eurovision winner will now be offered a promotional tour, this means that Marija will be travelling to six European countries during next week.

If you look at the complete score board you will notice that top 10 this year consists of 8 eastern European countries and only two west European countries. This has led to a flow of criticism on neighbourly voting this year. I can agree to the fact that neighbour voting was stronger and more clear than ever before in the history of the contest. If this is a problem well that needs to be discussed.

There could be a problem especially for the old west European countries were a number of countries has problems with keeping the interest for the contest, and bad results year after year don’t make that task any easier.

There should be said as well that there is also a need for big improvement in the standard of the songs from certain countries. Take this years UK entry that will never make on to any hit lists in the UK, why should it then make it to the top at Eurovision? The contest is taken more seriously in the eastern part of this continent and the west needs to view the contest in another way in the future. I anyhow think that there are a few countries like Belgium, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland that are thinking if they will skip next years contest and that would ofcourse be a very bad decision for the contest.

But all this will be discussed in an intense way in the comming months. In the meantime let’s once again congratulate Serbia to it’s first and well deserved victory at this years contest. I also congratulate myself for one of few people that believed in Armenia, I love you Hayko, you did a wonderful performance last night and really deserved your 8th place in the contest. And thank god that Ukraine didn’t win, there are god after all.

See you in Belgrade in 2008 - Long Live Eurovision!!

So in about 6 hours the 52nd Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest will start in Helsinki. 24 countries will battle it out who is the best. Trying to predict a winner this year is very difficult but I will make a try.

7  points to Serbia

4  points to Russia

3  points to Belarus

But the one who will win the Eurovision Song Contest is Ukraine and Verka Serducha performing Dancing lasha tumbai and I just have one thing to say about that……..BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

armenien.jpg

Let’s end this year with another of my favourites. Hayko will sing Anytime you need for Armenia. Many has said that this is a boring ballad with nothing to it. I can clearly say that I don’t agree at all.

I love this song and Hayko are doing a wonderful performance where he can show of his strong voice. He is one of Armenias most famous singers, he was awarded Best Male Singer in 2006. The whole stage design for Armenia looked very elegant with Hayko standing in front of a red tree, and snowflakes rushed through this red wood. In the end of the song, the heart of the singer seemingly starts to bleed soaking his white shirt in red, very powerful and dramatic.

This is a very strong ballad I think, and it’s brilliant peformed by Hayko and this song deserves a place in the top 10 after tonights voting.

GO ARMENIA !!!!

Let’s have a quick look at the last five countries that is taking part in tonights Grande Finale of the Eurovision Song Contest 2007.

Let’s start with last years host nation Greece. This year the they have a young handsome boy called Sarbel singing Yassou Maria for his country. Hmm this is a bit like a Greek Måns Zelmerlöf, he has a good voice and a nice performance. This is another song composed by a Swede, Marucs Englöf togheter with Alex Papacontantinou. A great song that makes you want to get up and dance.

My grade: 4

Next is Russia who came 2nd last year with Dima Bilan. This year they pay their hopes to three young girls in the group Serebro and the song is called Song #1.  Olya, marina and Elena will be wearing schoolgirl outfits and at the same time rough, sloppy and extremely sexy. Hmm this has a little porn touch to it.

Serebro does a great performance in a very modern pop song that has all things needed to start climbing the European charts after the contest. As one of my friends said Mr Putin can just relax and enjoy.

This is one of the best pop songs in the contest this year a really hit song in fact. With a very sexy and strong vocal performance they are for sure another favourite to victory in tonight contest.

My grade: 5

Romania has had a number of hit songs for the past year. This year they send a group called Todomondo and a song called Liubi liubi, I love you. Let’s not waste time on crap songs and just say that this is Romanias worst entry ever.

My grade: 1

Bosnia & Herzegovina tries with another ballad. Last year they came third and will try to improve the statistics with Maria Sestic in Rijeka bez imena. Maria has a stunning voice and has impressed everyone during the rehersals. 12 cameras are in use during her performance. The stage is showing the flow of a river and the national flag for Bosnia & Herzegovina. This is a wonderful song with a wonderful artist and I think it could be another good rank for the country.

france.jpg

This year France is represented by Les Fatals Picards, four French entertainers that will sing a song called L’amour á la Francaise and it will be sung in English!!!! France is another country were almost everyone thinks that Eurovision is a big joke escpecially when they are reminded of the fact that they last won in 1977 with Marie Myriam.

Can France repeat this success 30 years later? Well the group has been very well prepared during the rehersals and have done a great job performing the song. The stage will be in white, pink and red flowers changing over to images of the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dames.

France should be singing in French I think since they are not so good at English ( a lot of other countries has this problem as well) it sounds very strange and I think the song would fit very well at the end of an romantic movie. Their songs is said to be funny, witty and somehow ironical. I wonder if the European audience will get the joke.

In the United Kingdom this contest has always been seen as a big joke and that is especially the last 10 years when the results hasn’t been that great for this big music nation.

The UK pre-selection is an even bigger joke than the Eurovision itself, it’s a mix of totally unknow artists and crap songs most of the times. Last year UK came on 16th place. How is it possible that a great music nation like United Kingdom can’t come up with a deasant song? Perhaps one of the reason is that no normal artist would like to be ridiculed infront of millions of tv-viewers during the national selection.

This year the UK entry is called Flying the flag for you performed by Scootch. First time I saw this performance and heard the song was in 1981 when Bucks Fizz won with Making your mind up, please please the contest has actually moved on even though people of the United Kingdom don’t get that. This is rubbish and another 16th place is in reach.

My grade: 1

germany.jpg

This Germany is trying something different, they are sending a jazz song to the Eurovision Song Contest. Popular big band singer Roger Cicero will perform the song Frauen Regiere’n die Welt, a song dedicated to all women in ther world. Roger Cicero is extremely popular in Germany, his latest album sold platinum in weeks. He was also choosen as best German male singer earlier this year.

The song is my absolut favourite this year. This is a nostalgic trip back to the 1940’s and Roger Cicero do a very relaxed performance with no stage tricks except for the last 40 seconds of the songs, then he sings in English. He is also the most handsome man on stage in the contest this year. The stage will have his name in big letters on the LED screens during his performance.

My grade: 5+

finland.jpg

Hanna Pakarinen won the very first Finnish Pop Idol in 2004 and since then she has been one of Finlands top artists and has released three album so far. Hanna has high expectations from her fans and the Finnish public to give Finland antother top 5 rank on saturday.

During the rehersals Hanna has been very charismatic and given a lot of energy in her performances. This will be the most dramatic number during saturday’s final. The stage will change from black, blue and white to black red and orange this will be accompanied by a massive number of fireworks as well as the fog and wind machine.

Hanna’s music can best be described as rock-pop but she has borrows some goth element for her Eurovision song Leave me alone, goth is a very popular music style in Finland. Hanna has a very strong voice and she really enjoy being on stage. This could be Finlands second best ranking ever in the Eurovision Song Contest.

My grade: 4

ukraine.jpg

Time for one the more controversial performers this year.  The Ukrainian dragqueen Verka Serduchka met a storm of protests at home when he won the Ukrainian pre selection earlier this year. The protester were mostly religious and nationalistic groups that didn’t want a gay man to represent their country.

This is absolutely one of the worst songs this year, but everyone in Helsinki is walking around singing those stupid words “Sieben Sieben ai lyu lyu” and as if this wasn’t enough, Verka has a really good chance of winning the contest tomorrow night with his song Dancing lasha tumbai. Verkas performance is an orgie in madness, he is very big in eastern Europe and has sold millions of records so far. Another intresting thing is that the song will be sung in Ukrainian, German, English and Mongolian.

I don’t like this at all, I think it’s plain rubbish. If Ukraine win tomorrow night it will throw the Eurovision back into something that people see as a big joke. So if there is a god please make sure that this song don’t stand a chance in tomorrows grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest.

ireland-2.jpg

Ireland used be my favourite country in this contest, but in recent years Ireland has become extremely boring. Again this year we will be served an Irish ballad performed by one of the islands most popular folkgroups Dervish.

Dervish will sing They can’t stop the spring and the lyrics is about how Europe come together in one stage and no one can stop us from singing bla bla bla. I wonder have this country completely lost it? Why on earth can they never send anything else, 4 songs like this won the Eurovision in the 90’s and I do not think we are ready for another victory quite yet.

The band does a great performance on the stage and presents the song in the best possible way, so you can’t complain on that. The song itself is the problem it’s very correct, very boring.
